%X This article is focused on a very debated question of the spanish historiography related to the level of consensus reached during the late Seventies as far as foreign policy is concerned. The article describes the different position mantained by historiography both in Spain and at the international level and then focus on the controversial  relationship between europeanism and atlantism, explaining the major political parties position on this issue, and relating them to the heritage of the  Civil war period.
