%X The article discusses the new series of paintings that Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi (b. 1964) recently exhibited at Gagosian Gallery in London. In his monumental series inspired by the drawings of European Renaissance masters Albert D?rer and Leonardo da Vinci, Zeng adds a further dimension to his longstanding exploration of key elements of the medium, such as the relationship between abstraction and figuration, tradition and originality, expression and representation and Eastern and Western aesthetics, contributing to the vitality of the pictorial tradition.
