We also distinguish the source country of imports. We find that: 1) import penetration has a positive effect on productivity. 2) The effects are much larger for import penetration in up-stream industries than for import penetration in the same industry. 3) Imports from the other European countries and the BRICS have more significant impact on the productivity of Italian firms than imports from the US. date: 2014-04 date_type: published publication: Rivista italiana degli economisti volume: 55 number: 1 publisher: Il Mulino pagerange: 45-66 id_number: 10.1427/76114 refereed: TRUE issn: 1593-8662 official_url: http://www.rivisteweb.it/doi/10.1427/76114 citation: Altomonte, Carlo and Barattieri, Alessandro and Rungi, Armando Import Penetration, Intermediate Inputs and Productivity: Evidence from Italian Firms.
