We find that previous claims about universality classes are unfounded, since the method previously employed to analyze the data suffered from a systematic bias. We identify the correct scaling behavior and provide evidences suggesting that sandpiles with stochastic and deterministic toppling rules belong to the same universality class. date: 1999-01 date_type: published publication: Physical Review E volume: 59 publisher: American Physical Society pagerange: R12-R15 id_number: 10.1103/PhysRevE.59.R12 refereed: TRUE issn: 1539-3755 official_url: http://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevE.59.R12 related_url_url: http://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/9808263 citation: Chessa, Alessandro and Stanley, H.
