By the solution of the RVE equilibrium problems with properly prescribed boundary conditions the orthotropic elastic moduli of the higher order continua are obtained on the basis on the enhanced Hill-Mandel condition. A shear layer problem is analysed and the results from heterogeneous models are compared with those ones by the homogenization procedures; the second-order homogenization appears to provide better results in comparison to the micro-polar homogenization. date: 2010 date_type: published publication: Materials Science Forum volume: 638/42 publisher: Trans Tech Publications pagerange: 2561-2566 id_number: doi:10.4028/www.scientific.net/MSF.638-642.2561 refereed: TRUE issn: 1662-9752 official_url: http://dx.doi.org/10.4028/www.scientific.net/MSF.638-642.2561 citation: Bacigalupo, Andrea and Gambarotta, Luigi Micro-polar and second order homogenization of periodic masonry.
