This approach has been promoted by the EU project ASCENS, which develops the core idea of ensembles by providing rigorous semantics as well as models and methods for the whole development life cycle of an ensemble-based system. These methods specifically address adaptation, self-awareness, self-optimization, and continuous system evolution. In this paper, we demonstrate the key concepts and benefits of the ASCENS approach in the context of intelligent navigation of electric vehicles (e-Mobility), which itself is one of the three key case studies of the project. date: 2014-09 date_type: published publisher: IEEE pagerange: 71-76 event_title: 7th IEEE International Conference on Self-Adaptation and Self-Organizing Systems (SASO) event_location: Philadelphia, PA event_dates: 9-13 September, 2013 event_type: conference id_number: 10.1109/SASOW.2013.23 refereed: TRUE book_title: IEEE 7th International Conference on Self-Adaptation and Self-Organizing Systems Workshops (SASOW), 2013 official_url: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpls/abs_all.jsp?arnumber=6803261&tag=1 citation: Bureš, Tomáš and De Nicola, Rocco and Gerostathopoulos, Ilias and Hoch, Nicklas and Kit, Michal and Koch, Nora and Monreale, Giacoma Valentina and Montanari, Ugo and Pugliese, Rosario and Serbedzija, Nikola and Wirsing, Martin and Zambonelli, Franco A Life Cycle for the Development of Autonomic Systems: The E-mobility Showcase.
