We hypothesized that brain response to tactile flow would involve the same cortical areas (V5/MT) that respond to optic flow. Our results showed that V5/MT cortex indeed is activated by tactile flow perception. These findings are consistent with a supramodal organization of brain regions involved in optic and tactile flow processing date: 2004 date_type: published publisher: EuroHaptics Society pagerange: 290-292 event_title: EuroHaptics 2004 event_location: Munich, Germany event_dates: June 5-7, 2004 event_type: conference refereed: TRUE book_title: Proceedings of EuroHaptics 2004 official_url: http://www.eurohaptics.vision.ee.ethz.ch/2004.shtml citation: Ricciardi, Emiliano and Vanello, Nicola and Dente, Davide and Sgambelluri, Nicola and Scilingo, Enzo Pasquale and Gentili, Claudio and Sani, Lorenzo and Positano, Vincenzo and Santarelli, Maria Filomena and Guazzelli, Mario and Haxby, James V. and Landini, Luigi and Bicchi, Antonio and Pietrini, Pietro Perception of visual and tactile flow activates common cortical areas in the human brain.
