abstract: Short-term contracts have been used extensively in the Italian labor market in the last ten years. This article analyzes a new Italian panel data set, WHIP, and the Bank of Italy labor force survey, SHIW, to understand the effects of the introduction of this new typology of contracts. The goal of this paper is to investigate whether the objectives of the reforms have been accomplished and to identify the winners (the people benefiting the most) and the losers (the ones who are carrying the consequences of a less protected labor market) of this pivotal reform
