The book is the publication of the PhD dissertation of the Author and focuses on the social, political and economic reaction of the Prussian – German – countryside to the World War One and the Councils Revolution that was at the origin of the birth of the Weimar Republic. In the chaotic time of the Post War Period the German Councils became in the countryside a instrument in the hands of different political spokesman of the rural areas for implementing different and radical alternative plans with the aim of a new functioning of the rural society: in the hands of the agrarian associations and of the Prussian landholders was an instrument of restoration in the direction of a new corporatisation of the agricultural interests; in the hands of the revolutionary urban and military councils was an activity field for trying to democratize the structure of the society and the economy of the lands, a possibility that went punctually missed. The dissertation can be considered a typical example of Social History, inspired and influenced by the historiographical theories of the New Social History of the School of Bielefeld.
