Abstract
The article examines the reform of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (d.p.c. no. 171/2014), with specific regard to museums. The analysis deals with three main issues: the creation of a national system of museums and the recognition of the autonomy of state museums; the institutional models and the legal status of state museums; and the strategic role of the Ministry's field offices (namely, the "soprintendenze").
