Abstract

Fatigue crack growth data are usually presented in terms of the crack growth rate, da / dN, and the stress-intensity factor range, ΔK. The typical fatigue crack propagation curve is shown in Fig.1, where Region I is referred to as the near-threshold region, Region II as the power-law region and Region III as the rapid crack propagation region where K max → K IC and crack growth instability occurs. In Region II the Paris’ equation (Paris and Erdogan [1]) provides a good approximation to the majority of experimental data: (1) dadN=C(ΔK)m where C and m are empirical constants usually referred to as Paris’ law parameters.
